Resurreccion and Rebecca Elmhirst, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 2009. This book examines the gender dimensions of natural resource exploitation and manage- ment in South and Southeast Asia. The book specifically examines the tension between gender as a technical fix and a more politicized view of gender through its focus on environments in Asia where realities are producing significant challenges for natural resource management, livelihoods, and the mitigation of social inequalities. The book is organized into three parts, contributed by several authors, that link the discussions of gender, environment, and natural resource management. The chapters touch on theory, policy, and practice, all with a shared focus on gender as a critical analytical concept for understanding the social and political dimensions of natural resource management and governance across a range of empirical settings. Part 1 of the book contextualizes gender and natural resource management, with par- ticular attention to macroeconomic policies and changes in governance with diverse experiences taken from the Red River Delta in Vietnam, Northeast Thailand,
