One might expect at first that this new book will mainly talk about banking and monetary aspects of Indonesian economic development, for it is published by Bank Indonesia, the central bank of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies. Instead, it goes beyond monetary policies: There are also interesting and useful discussions about the domestic economy, especially factors in relation to demographics (a very rich and informative Chapter 7 by Arifin), industrial relations (Chapter 8 by Tjandraningsih), decentralization (Chapter 9 by Astiyah et al.) as well as an historical assessment of policy- making in Indonesia (various chapters, most notably Chapter 3 towards monetary policy by Ascarya and Chapter 5 on fiscal policy by Arlini and Riyanto). While leaning more on discussing policy direction, the book seems to include a quite ambitious objective: a new world development paradigm. This is evident in Part Four of the book, especially
